The concealment of a functioning subjectivity and the continued project of suppressing this side is what allows one to be confirmed in his illegitimate sovereignty, a condition that obtains given the fact of radical temporal discontinuity which implies the possibility and no longer the permissibility of redemption, and therefore and moreover that any such redemption is strictly illusory, i.e. does not in and of itself effect real change or movement from the place. This is in part what characterizes the novel in the Benjaminian sense in which is cued a passive condition, i.e. what Alcibiades had done to him, which can’t be otherwise for the simple reason that the crucial time has passed, but neither can you judge this other time in order to gain higher moral standing in relation to it, but only understand it yourself, which presencing is contingent upon suspension of judgement. This is already well-established.
To continue to regard belief as a default that stands in for lack of comprehension is therefore at odds with the project of proceeding from truth demands as that which authorizes the search for full understanding, subsequent to which one builds a firmament. Here truth can be taken as a property of mathematically constructed logical space, a kind of space described in Van Fraassen as that with which one “seeks to govern the effects of time that fall across it” (1970). Insofar as such space seems intended not for the governance of individual liberties primarily but for their restricted movement, it can be used to signal the arrival of a narrowly subjective legacy with respect to past practice. So, there is inheritance and there is inheritance. There is bequest and there is residue or remainder of the kind resembling the residue of material value that adheres to money as a means of exchange and that is said to be constitutive of one of the shortcomings of economic technique (Simmel, 1900). In both cases there is a non-relinquished expectation for the return of remembered loss in the form of material redemption, but this still has only to do with the known referent which is of less interest given that the so-called incommensurability still takes place within a supremely rational space.
Yet the logically constructed space is useful in that it allows for the retrieval of a certain time and place as aspects of a possible world in which a question is made, and this is how a question can have a history with discernible moments that are defined by recovering and distinguishing where and when it reappears. You would only have to locate instances of all the possible published positions that can be taken with respect to the question (Van Fraassen).
If possible worlds can be distinguished on the basis of questions made within them, then logically constructed spaces are what allow for them to be deduced without the necessary aid of retaining while also refusing to recognize any single time of an “actual world,” the use of which Kant was said to have objected, according to Van Fraassen. So, we move from narrowly delimited social classes within a possible world to globalized efforts to govern and manage resources most effectively among many equally possible and valid worlds.
